Lydia’s Place

Lydia’s Place demonstrates God’s love by providing basic care for young adults who have experienced foster care or housing insecurity while promoting their growth to independence.

As a non-profit located in Watkinsville, Georgia, Lydia’s Place provides housing, independent living skills and intensive case management for these young adults through our Elevate Program. We also serve young adults throughout the state of Georgia in our Provisions of Hope Program.

The Georgia Club Foundation’s donation will provide the Elevate Program participants with housing, utilities, independent skills training, transportation, and medical and counseling assistance. Lydia’s Place increased their capacity from 15 to 20 students, and added new housing options near Athens Tech. Funding will go toward these additional rent costs.

Please visit Lydia’s Place for more information.

SANE-Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners Program

The purpose of Athens-Clarke County Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners Program is to provide victim forensic examinations and evidence collection, court testimony, and community prevention education related to rape, sexual and physical assault. ACC-SANE Program functions as a non-profit 501 (c) 3 agency and is currently governed by a board of directors.

The Georgia Club Foundation’s donation will be used for print materials, billboards, and other marketing to get the word out about SANE’s services. SANE is seeking to increase visibility and reach thereby increasing knowledge about services and access to services. More awareness leads to more clients served. Service to clients creates better outcomes for the survivor in long term mental health and physical health. It also leads to better outcomes in sexual assault and child abuse cases. Better outcomes lead to an increase in offender accountability, restoration for survivors and the ability to build resilience back for those who these crime affect.

Please visit SANE  for more information.

History of The Tour Of Homes

The Georgia Club is a master plan development that offers a warm and inviting atmosphere and a giving spirit.  We have a long history of opening our doors to the community so that we may share our southern hospitality and desire to enrich the lives of those in need.  The Georgia Club Foundation, the philanthropic arm of The Georgia Club, offers various events to raise funds to meet community needs. The Tour of Homes is one of those endeavors.

The 2004 Southern Living Idea Home was built in The Georgia Club by Steve Green and Charlotte Johnson.   The home on Georgia Club drive was open for tours from June – October 2004. This home tour introduced the Georgia Club to the local community.  Over 20,000 visitors toured the 2004 Southern Living Idea Home!

Friday cocktail hour was a special event at the club in early 2007.  Club members and Foundation Board members Harvey Tarpley, Susan VanHook, and Flo Perry Bastow discussed the feasibility of a home tour at a birthday party at the pool cabana in the spring of 2007 and the first Tour of Homes was held on December 9, 2007!

The Georgia Club Foundation Tour of Homes inaugural tour was in December 2007.  Flo Perry was the chairperson of the tour.  Sara Freeman was a Georgia Club staff member that provided a lot of assistance for the tour.  Five homes were on the tour.  One year later the second Tour of Homes was held in 2008.  Flo Perry Bastow and Linda Johnson chaired the 2008 tour.  Susan VanHook chaired the 2009 tour and the 2010 tour.  A Garden Tour was held in the spring of 2011. Thereafter the tour became a biennial event.  As always, the goal of the Tour of Homes was to share the beauty of the season with the community while raising funds for well-deserving local agencies.  The Tour of Homes has donated approximately $100,000.00 to local agencies that provide housing, meals, training and employment opportunities to those in need.

The Georgia Club Foundation Tour of Homes is a biennial event that has grown to include a tour of homes, a holiday marketplace, and an online auction.  The Georgia Club Foundation strives to engage the community in meaningful ways that bring us together for the betterment of our community.  The 2022 Tour of Homes weekend celebration includes a tour of exceptionally decorated homes and a boutique shopping experience with the online auction and holiday marketplace.
