Christmastime can be particularly difficult for families when parents are without jobs, homes have been lost, and families are torn apart. To brighten the holiday season, the Georgia Club Foundation works with the Barrow County Family Connection and the Oconee County Resource Council to identify families that can use a little joy in their lives.
Since the inception of this worthy endeavor, many generous Residents and Members have provided a very Merry Christmas for almost 1000 children and over 300 families in Barrow and Oconee Counties with greatly needed gifts and food goods.
In 2017 we supported 12 families from Oconee County who faced extreme difficulties such as the death of a parent, the long term loss of employment, a house fire, or children who are being cared for by a fixed income grandparent. The Oconee County Resource Council provided a list of items desperately needed by these families such as various articles of clothing, and also the child’s wishes for a couple of toys. Each “at need” family received a Publix gift certificate donated by The Georgia Club for a ham or turkey. In addition, we supplied each adopted child with a beautiful Christmas stocking which was lovingly crafted by the Georgia Girls.
We also collected toys and teenage products to assist the Barrow County Family Connection’s administrators with their Christmas Toy Drive. We exceeded our 2017 goal of providing a minimum of 900 toys through the kindness of our wonderful Members.
We accept cash and check donations at any time of the year to begin planning for the next drive which will take place in November 2018. Please make your check out to “The Georgia Club Foundation” and notate “AAF Project 2018” on the memo line.
